Gayathri Ranganath, a Senior Project Leader based in Bengaluru, India, joined Parexel's Enterprise Project Leadership team in 2021 and have spent over 16 years in the clinical research industry, partnering with global teams to deliver complex clinical programs.
She enjoys problem solving and building connections which led her to project leadership.
What does Senior Project leader do?
As a Project leader Gayathri is responsible for leading global clinical trials and collaborating with cross-functional teams across multiple countries and time zones.
In simple terms, the role is about bringing people, processes, and goals together to ensure clinical trials are delivered successfully. Think of it as being the conductor of an orchestra, making sure different teams work in harmony toward a common goal. It's a dynamic role that combines strategy, problem-solving, communication, and leadership. Most importantly, every milestone achieved brings potential new treatments one step closer to the patients who need them.
Over the past five years at Parexel, I've had the opportunity to work on diverse studies, build meaningful partnerships with sponsors and colleagues, and grow both professionally and personally. What I value most is the opportunity to keep learning while contributing to work that ultimately impacts patients lives.
How would you describe what it’s like to work at Parexel?
Parexel stands out as a company where values are truly lived by every day.
I feel empowered to share ideas, challenge the status quo, and contribute openly. What resonates most with me is our unwavering commitment to putting patients first. That purpose-driven culture aligns closely with my own values and makes the work deeply meaningful.
What’s your favorite part of your day-to-day work that people might not expect?
Change is the only constant. Every day brings a new challenge, and as someone who genuinely enjoys problem-solving, I find that energizing. Whether it's overcoming an unexpected roadblock, aligning diverse stakeholders, or finding creative solutions, each challenge represents an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact.
Can you share a moment at work when you felt you made a real difference, big or small?
One moment that stands out involved a patient eagerly waiting to begin a promising new treatment. The study site needed to be activated quickly, and through strong collaboration across multiple teams, we were able to accelerate the process and initiate the site ahead of schedule.
Knowing that our collective efforts helped a patient access potential treatment sooner was incredibly meaningful. It was a powerful reminder that behind every project milestone is a patient whose life may be impacted by our work.
Every project milestone represents more than progress. It's a step closer to delivering new possibilities for patients around the world.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long day?
Spending time with my children is the best way for me to recharge. Their energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm always bring a fresh perspective to my day.
I enjoy solving puzzles, caring for my plants and exploring my creative side through painting and fine arts whenever I get the chance.
What’s a hidden talent or surprising skill you have that your colleagues might not know about?
Creativity has always been a big part of my life.
I enjoy sketching and painting, singing, and I have also choreographed and performed various dance styles over the years. It's a wonderful way to express myself and maintain balance outside of work.
What was your dream job when you were a kid, and how does it relate (or not relate) to what you do now?
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a scientist.
While my career took me down a different path, I still feel connected to that dream because I remain part of the research ecosystem. Through my role, I help support the development and delivery of innovative treatments that may improve patients' lives. Knowing that my work contributes to that mission gives me a strong sense of purpose every day.
