Why I Chose Parexel to Restart My Career After a Break
Coming back to work after a career break can feel overwhelming. In August 2021, I faced that challenge head-on. After spending time on personal development and keeping up with changes in clinical research, I wanted to join a company that valued experience and offered a supportive environment. That’s when Parexel stood out.
What drew me in wasn’t just Parexel’s global reputation or patient-focused approach—it was the culture. Inclusive, collaborative, and open to professionals returning after a gap. I knew this was the right place to restart and grow.
Since joining, the experience has been rewarding. The work we do has real impact, and the environment encourages learning and teamwork. From structured onboarding to mentorship and hands-on projects, Parexel gave me the confidence and tools to rebuild my career. Today, I’m proud to be part of a team that values growth and empowers people to succeed.
Learning, Growing, and Evolving at Parexel
One of the most significant things I’ve learned from my colleagues at Parexel is the true value of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Coming back to the workforce after a career gap, I was initially unsure how quickly I could adapt. But my teammates were incredibly supportive, always willing to share insights, walk me through processes, and encourage open communication.
I’ve realized that no matter how experienced you are, there’s always something new to learn from others’ perspectives. This culture of mutual respect and continuous learning has not only helped me grow professionally but also made me feel truly valued as part of the team.
Since joining Parexel in August 2021, my role as a Project Data Coordinator has evolved significantly. Initially, I focused on learning internal systems, understanding project workflows, and reorienting myself after the career gap. Over time, I was promoted to Senior Project Data Coordinator, where I’ve taken on more complex responsibilities—leading data coordination efforts across multiple studies, mentoring new team members, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.
Motivation that moves me forward
What motivates me most is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while continuously learning. At Parexel, every project contributes to improving patient outcomes and knowing that my work supports that mission keeps me inspired.
Additionally, the supportive culture and access to professional development resources encourage me to keep expanding my skills. Having re-entered the workforce after a career gap, I’m especially driven to keep evolving—both to stay current in the industry and to challenge myself. The trust and recognition I’ve received from my team have also played a big role in boosting my confidence and motivating me to aim higher.
One piece of advice to someone starting in my role
If I could give one piece of advice to someone starting in my role, it would be this: embrace the details and stay curious. As a Senior Project Data Coordinator, precision matters—but so does understanding the bigger picture. Take time to learn how your work fits into the broader clinical trial process, ask questions, and don’t hesitate to seek clarity. Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams because collaboration is essential. And most importantly, be patient with yourself—especially if you’re returning after a career break. Growth takes time, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn.
Beyond the Job title
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long day?
After a long day, I love to unwind by spending quiet time with my family or diving into a good book. It helps me disconnect from work and recharge mentally. Sometimes, a walk outdoors or listening to calming music also does wonders. These small rituals help me reset and prepare for the next day with a fresh perspective.
What was your dream job when you were a kid, and how does it relate (or not relate) to what you do now?
As a child, my dream job was to become a dancer. I was drawn to the creativity, expression, and discipline that dancing requires. While my current role as a Senior Project Data Coordinator at Parexel is quite different, I find that some of the same qualities- like focus, attention to detail, and perseverance, still apply.
What’s something you’re passionate about outside of work that people might not know?
Something I’m passionate about outside of work is home décor. I love creating cozy, aesthetically pleasing spaces that reflect personality and warmth. Whether it’s rearranging furniture, experimenting with color palettes, or adding small DIY touches, I find it incredibly fulfilling. It’s a creative outlet that helps me unwind and brings a sense of calm and joy to my everyday environment.
