Do you value working in an environment that supports individual aspirations, provides development opportunities, and fosters a supportive atmosphere? Then be inspired by Nadim’s story to join him at Parexel!

You started at Parexel as a Clinical Operations Leader in 2020 and then went through the internal advancement program “PLACE” to become a Project Leader. Can you tell me about your experience with that?

Yes, I was supported to grow from the very first year after joining the company. Within one year of joining Parexel as a Clinical Operations Leader, I proved my successful clinical management skills in a challenging study, which led to my promotion to the Senior Clinical Operations Leader role. I must thank my previous line manager for continuously supporting my development. When the opportunity to join the PLACE program arose, I applied and was accepted. The program was a well-organized six-week training for functional leaders transitioning into the Project Leader role. During the program, each participant was assigned a mentor who was an experienced Project Leader. We had additional meetings with our mentors to discuss various topics. The mentor assignment was not random but took into consideration factors to ensure a fruitful and efficient development process. I was assigned a very experienced colleague from Italy with a sharp, organized mindset and excellent training skills. To successfully transition into the Project Leader role we continued the mentor relationship for a period. Overall, this program and the support from mentors have contributed to my career growth at Parexel.

About the PLACE program:

The PLACE (Part-time Mentoring Program for 8 Weeks) program is a nomination-based and business needs-driven initiative designed to develop Senior Clinical Operations Leaders (COLs) for Project Leader (PL) positions. Over the course of 8 weeks, participants engage in a comprehensive curriculum focusing on Project Management, budgeting, systems, and social skills such as trust building and leading without formal authority. By providing targeted training, mentoring, and hands-on experiences, the program equips COLs with the skills and knowledge required to excel as PLs, aligning them with organizational goals and promoting excellence in project leadership.

What have you experienced at Parexel that you haven't experienced anywhere else?

It's Parexel's employee-focused approach that I haven't experienced before. I've always had good and supportive colleagues and managers in my previous workplaces. However, what sets Parexel apart is the organizationally embedded culture of recognizing that each person has their own aspirations and supporting everyone in reaching their desired career path. This has allowed me to progress quickly in my three years at Parexel. I believe that happy and hardworking employees contribute to the organic growth and differentiation of the company, leading to client satisfaction and retention.

Is there anything else a candidate should know when they apply to or accept a role at Parexel?

I believe it's important for candidates to keep a realistic level of expectations when joining any workplace. While Parexel has many positive aspects, it's essential to remember that no workplace is perfect. Individuals have different aspirations and preferences regarding systems, processes, and other factors. However, what truly matters are the people you work with, including colleagues and managers, and the company's approach towards its employees.

Working with Biotech clients

What excites you about working with Biotech clients and what skills are needed to be successful?

Often Biotech clients are smaller companies with less experience in conducting clinical trials generally or in specific regions. For them, you are the expert, which may require more time and effort to guide them in executing trials successfully, compared to a large Pharma company with much more experience and in-house knowledge.

To be successful at Parexel Biotech, one needs to be organized, flexible, and able to provide personalized and tailored services to meet nonstandard requests. Patience, understanding, and the ability to handle additional ad hoc requests are also important due to the nature of the Biotech industry. Additionally, having experience and knowledge is critical to being able to guide clients and deliver successful trials. These challenges are what excite me about working in Biotech as I enjoy overcoming them and achieving successful results.

A colleague with whom I worked on my first trial here at Parexel told me, “Nadim, I like it because I don't get bored.” I think that’s a good reason to remain in this department. You won’t get bored!

Nadim outside of work

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I prioritize spending time with my family and friends. I also maintain a clear separation between work and personal time since I am home-based. I engage in daily sports activities and frequently meet up with friends. I enjoy traveling, both within my country and abroad, whenever I have the chance. Whether it's a mountain trip or a city break, exploring new places is always exciting for me. Additionally, I find solace in quiet activities like reading, listening to music, and watching movies.

Is there anything that might surprise your colleagues about you?

Not much, to be honest. I openly share updates about my family, vacations, and other private events at work. I've also developed strong friendships with colleagues, even those who work in other countries. We communicate regularly and share pictures from our vacations or when we visit each other's cities. These personal connections bring a sense of unity and enjoyment to our work.
