Meet Ruchika, Senior Medical Writer, Safety Medical Writing

Ruchika Sadana joined Team Parexel 17 years ago this past November. She grew up in the small town of Himachal Pradesh and began her professional journey in 2007 when she joined Parexel right out of college to work on individual case safety reports. In the following decade, Ruchika evolved both professionally and personally by working in a variety of pharmacovigilance positions. Her current position as a senior medical writer and safety scientist has helped her to develop a holistic picture of patient safety.
Can you provide us with an overview of your role as a Senior Medical Writer, in Safety Medical Writing?
In my day-to-day work, I lead a team of experienced Scientists, serve as a Clinical Safety Scientist, and am an expert in signal detection and management. My other responsibilities include post authorization safety study (PASS) assessments, resource planning, and mentoring.
I practice the delicate art of balancing my busy days in the office with enjoying my time with family and friends. I ensure that I make time for my hobbies as I love to drive, read, write, and take long walks in nature. I find that practicing mindfulness helps me to embrace each day with positivity and discipline.
Reflecting on your work at Parexel, what are you most proud of, and why?
Reflecting on my 17-year journey at Parexel, I'm most proud of two significant achievements. In 2007, I was a key member in establishing a new process of case initiation and triage which has since become the standard practice. This pioneering work laid the foundation for efficient patient data management and case creation.
Secondly, in the past two years, I've successfully managed to hold multiple roles in safety science and as a molecule lead and PASS classification point of contact. These diverse responsibilities have allowed me to contribute significantly to Parexel's initiatives and have made me feel truly valued and proud of my impact on the organization's success.
What is the most important lesson that you’ve learned from working at Parexel?
The most valuable lesson I've learned is the critical balance between time management and quality work. Working with diverse line managers, subject matter experts and mentors has honed my ability to efficiently allocate time without compromising on quality. The art of maintaining high standards while meeting demanding timelines has become a cornerstone of my approach to work and life challenges.

What is one way you always keep “Patients First”?
As a Medical Writer working on recognizing potential threats, safety reports, signals, and risks, I always cross check the medical data for accuracy. I ensure that the detailed work on patient safety is associated with social responsibilities to provide a safe environment for patients and to minimize the risks and threats. This approach not only enhances the safety profile of the treatments but also contributes to their overall efficacy, ultimately benefiting the patients we serve.
Parexel recently rolled out our new Behaviors. One of them is to “Win as One Team.” What does this Behavior mean to you and can you share an example where you have seen this Behavior in action at Parexel?
To me, 'Win as One Team' means collaborating effectively, leveraging each other's strengths and supporting one another to overcome challenges and achieve common goals. I recently observed this behavior in my team when we were working on routine signal detection and the matrix model. One teammate was struggling to meet the deadline for assigned molecules so when we realized the deadline was growing closer, our team divided responsibilities and worked together to meet our timelines. Through our collective effort and mutual support, we successfully achieved our targets without compromising compliance or quality.Personal Insights
