Using Real-World Data to optimize study designs for the patient journey

Find out what it means to work with the patient in mind

Are you looking to strengthen your data skillset while contributing to the advancement of health science? Our global Scientific Data Organization (SDO) team is changing the way clinical trials are performed for the patient journey by utilizing data and technology to connect patients throughout the healthcare ecosystem, enabling a more complete picture of each patient’s continuity of care. Our real-world data (RWD) strategy is built on the right data at the right time, innovative big data technology, and diverse, and multi-disciplinary RWD expertise (medical informatics, data science, biostatistics, epidemiology). To that end, we have developed a real-world data ecosystem that supports a variety of strategic applications across the clinical trials research spectrum, from novel clinical trial studies enriched with RWD to patient sensor solutions.

Through our comprehensive RWD platforms and global SDO team, we are able to identify patient and consumer determinates of behavior, geographic disease, treatment and prescribing patterns, and explore RWD data and study feasibility, to effectively enable the delivery of strategic RWD applications.

Changing the way we perform clinical trials – We do it With Heart

At the center of our clinical research is the patient. Because the work we do, can’t be done halfway it has to be done knowing the countless people are counting on us to make a difference – for their friends, family, and themselves. That’s why we do it With HeartTM.

Join others in advancing your data career here at Parexel

In our Global SDO team, we recognize the importance of developing talent and helping individuals build a career in clinical research. See how two of our employees have built their careers over the past two decades here at Parexel!

Meet Alison Ritchie: After starting at Parexel in 2002 as a Senior Project Manager, Alison has spent the past two decades transitioning her career from Client Services and Portfolio Management, to becoming the Global Head Sensor Solutions Director in 2021.

Meet Laura O'Donnell: Once joining Parexel in 2002 as a Clinical Data Coordinator, Laura progressed through various Data Operations positions, which let her to becoming the RWD Solutions Senior Director in 2022.

How is our Scientific Data Organization team different?

Team structure

  • Due to Parexel’s dynamic environment and significant experience, you will have the opportunity to contribute to all types of projects: large, small, complex, full-service, standalone services, global, and geographically diverse. Our subject matter experts in therapeutic areas, phases, and/or study types are readily available to work with project teams and provide additional support.
  • Effective communication is critical to the success of all projects throughout the project life-cycle. We provide individuals the resources to help support effective and transparent communication across the team.

Management systems and tools

  • Parexel’s employees have a suite of internal information management tools and systems at their disposal to successfully manage and deliver projects. Many of the systems are interfaced with quick and easy access to integrated data, thus providing up-to-date performance data to facilitate rapid results.

Training and onboarding

  • Exceptional trainings include dedicated sessions hosted by a team of knowledgeable Parexel individuals. These hands-on training sessions help guide new hires to develop a greater understanding of Parexel and how we keep patients at the center of what we do. This training, coupled with our general learning management system, assigned mentors, career development programs, and experienced SMEs, as well as your skills and talents, help pave the way for your success.

Applying new techniques in direct-to-patient studies

Our SDO team demonstrates how within an individual study, they were able to tokenize a specific group of subject's data and link the data obtained directly from each patient with that same individual’s data in real world data sources. Identifying target parameters and estimation for unbiased and precise causal inference

Observational real-world data (RWD) has the potential to transform clinical research, but leveraging these data often presents a host of challenges. The "Targeted Learning in Vaccines and Immune Therapies: for high precision and the lowest possible bias" roadmap provides a rigorous framework for synthesizing evidence from randomized controlled trials and RWD.
