About this Role

We are looking to fill a Principal Scientist I or II – Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and Open Access Instrumentation Support position working as a full-time employee of Parexel FSP on long-term assignment onsite at one of our clients located in South San Francisco, CA. This position offers full benefits, sick time, 401K, paid holidays, and paid time off. This position does not offer any sponsorship.

The Potential base Pay Range for this role is: $75,000 to $100,000. The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a number of factors including position/level offered, skills, education, training, experience and professional achievement.

This is a laboratory-based role that operates and maintains open access LC-MS instruments and other open access instrumentation, and other duties as assigned by the client.

Responsibilities

  • Checks instrument performance daily, and performs routine upkeep of open access LC-MS instruments

  • Responds to end-user repair calls for LC-MS instrumentation and troubleshoots/repairs simple issues such as leaks or clogs

  • Submits and coordinates repair tickets for more complex issues

  • Coordinates cryogen orders, and performs weekly liquid nitrogen fills for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments

  • Performs daily sample clean up on the open access NMR

  • Cleans electrospray ionization (ESI) process source and runs standards monthly

  • Assists with preparation of samples and set up of data acquisition for analysis by liquid chromatography (LC), by LC-MS, and Circular Dichroism (CD) Spectroscopy

  • Documents LC-MS performance and uptime

  • Assists with purity analysis of investigational compounds by LC

  • Maintains accurate documentation and records

Qualifications

  • Principal Scientist I: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 3-5 years of experience or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 1-2 years of experience

  • Principal Scientist II: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 7 or more years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with 3 or more years of experience; or a PhD in a relevant field with at least 1 year of experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and hands-on knowledge in LC-MS is required with an interest in expanding knowledge/background in LC-MS method development

  • Development and optimization, validation, data analysis, and sample preparation techniques

  • Mass spectral data interpretation including structural assignments of unknown compounds

  • Preparation of mobile phases for LC-MS instruments

  • Well-developed written and oral communication capabilities
